Our current food system is dominated by industrialized, input intensive agriculture and large supermarked brands. This food system has severe negative effects on the environment, climate and life on the countryside, and it contributes to less knowledge about where our food comes from and how it is produced. If Denmark is to fulfill the obligations in the Paris Agreement, it is neccessary to change the agricultural sector and produce food in a way that is less harmful to the planet. How can we accommodate for the transition towards a more environmentally friendly agriculture sector? What are the challenges facing young farmers who want to produce sustainably, and how can we overcome these challenges?
These are among the questions we will address at Brenderup Højskole. We will discuss the challenges facing young farmers who want to start small, sustainable farms, or other initiatives that challenge our current way of producing and distributing food. Moreover, we will explore how we can create alternatives to todays’s food system, e.g. through cooperatives, direct trade and farms addressing social issues, and how we can meet the challenges facing the next generation of farmers.
